Besides the full edition that we’re planning to bring out at the end of April, Bnieuws is working on a video project for the months of March and April as a special edition: the Faces of the Faculty.
With more than a year of lockdowns to various degrees; online education, limited events and limited social contact, we’re all feeling done with the COVID-19 pandemic. At Bnieuws, we’ve realised that what we are missing most is the contact with each other; hanging out, chatting with friends about our projects and designs, seeing familiar faces at the faculty, and perhaps most importantly, drinking beers at the Bouwpub together. Though unfortunately we can’t make these things possible again, we want to create a video where we can come into contact with one another, to reflect on the past year and its many ups and downs.
We see this as follows: we want to invite you to the faculty on Monday, April 12 or Friday, April 16 for about 40 minutes; in the first 20 minutes you will receive six questions about your experience with the COVID-19 pandemic this past year and have this time to think about them and reflect. For the 20 minutes afterwards we will ask you to sit in front of our camera while we ask you these questions. Though this might seem daunting, we think this is not only a great moment to honestly reflect about how we are all feeling about the past year, but more than that a moment to share and communicate with each other, bringing the many faces of the faculty into view after not having seen each other for so long. We want to stress though that there is absolutely no pressure; if at any point you want to stop, or if there’s a specific question you don’t want to answer, that’s totally fine and you have our full understanding.
Our plan afterwards is to edit segments of everyone’s answers into a 5-10 minute video, which we will publish on our Instagram and on our website. It will likely be shared on other university platforms as well. We want you to feel free to say what you want: did you hate the past year? Was it terrible? Did you have a good year? Tell us, in whichever language you feel most comfortable in. While our main goal is to reflect about the past year, we also want to look forward, thinking about what we’re most looking forward to once things return to normal.
Regarding corona safety, we will have to follow the strict rules of the university: everyone will have to sign up for a 30 minute time slot, facemasks (you will only be able to take your mask off when in front of the camera), 1.5m distance to each other, limited amounts of people per room, etc.. We will keep you up to date about this as we proceed forward.
